:: To Migration Office,Goteburg,Sweden دوشنبه, ۲۰ام تیر, ۱۳۹۰

Case #
Temporary ID Number:

This letter is regarding an emergency case of an Iranian asylum-seeker
who has been detained and is to be deported to Iran on Monday, 11 July 2011.

Behrouz Arasteh was arrested on the way home last week by the police and
was immediately moved to the detention facility of the Migration Office
in Goteborg. Behrouz’ spouse, Mrs. Masoumeh Hajipour Khoshkebijari, and
their 15-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son also live in Sweden.
Behrouz says that after he was detained, police visited his home and
searched through and confiscated his belongings, among them his USB
drive. Behrouz, in his contact with the Federation, said that the police
apparently did not care about his wife and children, but he is to be
deported to Iran today.

In this regard, we would like to draw the Migration Office’s attention
to a few important issues regarding Behrouz Arasteh’s deportation:

۱) Behrouz Arasteh asked the Migration Office for asylum for himself and
his family a few years ago, but after a while, he returned with his
family back to Iran. It didn’t take long until he returned to Sweden and
applied for asylum a second time. The Federation has no information
about the reasons for applying for asylum in those instances. Therefore,
this letter does not deal with the reasons for his need for asylum.

۲) Behrouz, on Saturday, 9th of July, in a telephone call, asked the
International Federation of Iranian Refugees for help. He said, “I want
to give new reasons to the Migration Office, things that I have not
mentioned before.” He specifically said, “I had been collaborating with
IRGC and the Defense Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and I
have fled them. If I am returned to Iran, it is possible that I would be
sentenced to death by the judiciary system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

In the opinion of the International Federation of Iranian Refugees,
although we don’t know the reasons for the arrest and the deportation
order of Behrouz, we ask the Migration Office to give Behrouz enough
time to defend his asylum case and, as he says, to have a chance to tell
what he has not told yet.  The Federation believes that even if Behrouz
has committed a crime in Sweden, it is better to be indicted and
prosecuted here in Sweden than to be sent back to the Islamic Republic
of Iran. The Migration Office should consider not only the judicial
aspect of this issue, but also think about the humanitarian aspects,
which are much more important. If he has committed a crime, it is better
not to leave prosecution to the Islamic Republic.
