Representatives of the Vancouver branch of IFIR will be there to welcome them.

 

After 9 months of homelessness at Moscow Airport and following IFIR’s successful global campaign;

Zahra Kamalfar has been saved from Moscow Airport!

Zahra and her children will fly to Canada on Wednesday 14 March!

According to the latest news, a few minutes ago Mrs Kamalfar informed the IFIR’s Secretariat that the Canadian Embassy has accepted her and her children’s application for asylum and resettlement in Canada and that they will be flying to Canada on Wednesday 14 March 2007.

Deportations to Iran rising despite torture concerns: A record 43 failed refugee claimants were deported last year from British Columbia to Iran despite ongoing concerns over torture and other human-rights violations there.

Eyewitness fear retribution: Yesterday, Amnesty International noted that in the early 1990s, dozens of politically active Iranian exiles were murdered, notably Sadiq Sharafkindi, leader of Kurdish rebels, and three aides in 1992 in Berlin's Mykonos Greek restaurant; Kazem Radjavi, an opposition leader, in Geneva, in 1990; and Shapour Bakhtiar, former Iranian prime minister, found with his throat slit in his Paris home in 1991. Other Iranians have been assaulted and killed in Sweden and Norway.
