Following the call of few leftist organizations defending refugee rights in Greece, on Saturday February the 10th, a large manifestation was held in Athens. Near 1000 citizens and refugees were present at this manifestation, protesting against the harsh policies of the Greek government toward refugees.

Activists of the International Federation of Iranian Refugees while carrying banners and slogans in support of the “Right of the refugee”, and holding Federation’s flags, contributed to this manifestation. The rally started at 3:00 PM at Ammonia Square, Athens’s main city square, and ended in front of the Greek parliament after 3 hours. At this rally freedom lover people of Greece expressed their solidarity with refugees, asked the Greek parliament and government to show respect to the rights of refugees, to consider citizenship rights for them and to stop their harsh policies against refugees including severe control of the frontiers, arrest and imprisonment of refugees and their deportation and expulsion.

The International Federation of Iranian Refugees (IFIR) is asking all Iranian refugees residing in Greece to join the Federation to defend their own rights and oppose the Greek government’s overcharging. We have to start an organized and united movement to fight against these unjust measures and create better life conditions in Greece for ourselves.
